Along the Tiber – Photographing Rome by the River

Experience summary:

The Tiber, since its birth, has been the soul of Rome and was considered a divinity (Tiberinus). The city owes its existence to it.
The Tiber passes through ancient Rome and close to the Vatican state in a timeless way.
Our goal is to capture the soul of Rome, photographing it along the Tiber. Along the way we will get a chance to uncover fascinating hidden places, known only by locals as well as photograph iconic locations from a different angle, seeking a different way to showcase this enchanted city.

We will always be in the right spots at the right time of the day.

Key highlights:

• We will cover a lot of ground during this tour including:

  • Castel Sant’Angelo (Castle of the Holy Angel) – St. Angelo bridge – St. Peter. This iconic area of Rome is a treat for all the photographers.
  • Trastevere – situated on the west bank of the Tiber River, its name comes from the Latin trans Tiberim, meaning literally “beyond the Tiber”. It is a charming medieval neighborhood with narrow cobblestone streets, colorful outdoor restaurants and buildings draped in ivy, and balconies enlivened with geraniums.
  • Tiber Island – In the middle of the Tiber river with bridges connecting Trastevere to the Jewish Ghetto is the Tiber Island. The island is wonderfully picturesque and looks like a medieval hill town with its old bridges and church. It was once the site of an ancient temple to Aesculapius, the Greek god of medicine.
  • Jewish Ghetto – Ponte Fabricius, the oldest standing bridge in Rome, dating back to 62BC, connect the Tiber island to the Jewish Ghetto. The Ghetto, with its enormous synagogue, kosher bakeries, and shop windows filled with menorahs, is the center of the Jewish community in Rome. The combination of ancient history and modern community makes the Ghetto one of the most interesting areas to explore in the historic center of Rome, with the continuity between past and present clearly visible.
  • Ostiense – A quirky neighborhood Ostiense, formerly an industrial district famous for its striking gasometer (an abandoned gas container), today is undergoing a cultural transformation, quickly becoming a magnet for the young and is mostly known for its street art. Progressive artists are turning the walls of abandoned buildings, train underpasses, and apartment blocks into spectacular murals. Blu and Carlos Atoche are just some of the artists that were inspired by the Ostiense’s post-industrial atmosphere and gave life to remarkable artworks. Ostiense with its modern vibes is one of the most unique areas of the Eternal City.
